The main goal in Rummy is to form valid sets and sequences using the cards dealt to you. A valid hand typically consists of two sequences (at least one pure sequence) and the rest can be sets or sequences. A player must declare their hand once it meets the game’s criteria, aiming to minimize the points of unmatched cards.
Rummy is usually played with 2 to 6 players using one or two decks of 52 cards plus jokers. Each player is dealt 13 cards. One card is selected at random to act as a wild joker for that round, along with printed jokers. The remaining cards form the closed deck, while a separate pile becomes the open deck.
A sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. A pure sequence is one without a joker, which is mandatory to declare a valid hand. A set is a group of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. Jokers can be used in impure sequences or sets to complete combinations.
